About Us
At Intercounties Progressive Society, we’re a collective force for good, bringing together passionate Kenyans from all counties to drive positive change and empower our local communities. We champion the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), believing that community-based and faith-based organizations are the cornerstones of building a brighter future for all of Kenya.
Our Programs
Here is a summary of the projects undertaken by Intercounties Progressive Society (IPS)
Alumni Association Engagement
The IPS aims to engage alumni from various primary and secondary schools to join efforts in transforming schools into centers of excellence, aligned with SDG 4’s focus on quality education. Alumni involvement will help in effectively implementing the Competent Based Curriculum (CBC) and contributing to the overall improvement of education standards.
Skills and Talents Training
IPS identifies and empowers gifted and talented children in public primary and secondary schools by providing them with the necessary skills and tools to thrive in the 21st century. Currently, IPS operates five centers in Kiambu County that offer foreign language and martial arts training. With adequate resources, they plan to introduce additional programs such as coding, machine learning, pre-technical skills, leadership for Africa, music and art, sustainable fashion, sports training, financial literacy, and digital literacy. The goal is to expand the number of training centers to 60.
Environmental Conservation
IPS engages communities, primarily through public schools, in tree planting initiatives. They strive to establish aggregated tree nurseries with specific targets: 70% fruit trees, 10% indigenous trees, 10% exotic trees, and 10% ornamental trees. This project aligns with various SDGs that touch on food security, climate action, life on land, nutrition and health, and economic empowerment.
Smart Organic Rural and Urban Farming
IPS empowers communities with techniques for appropriate food production that promotes nutritional wellness and health. They provide training on organic manure and pesticide production, permaculture, vermiculture, and other sustainable farming practices.
Value Addition
IPS conducts training programs on value addition for various food products, primarily focusing on vegetables and cereals like bananas, arrow roots, and potatoes. This training equips individuals with skills to enhance the value and marketability of these products, ultimately benefiting local farmers and producers.
Leadership and Mentorship
IPS empowers the youth of Africa by providing necessary motivation and leadership experiences that shape them into effective, solution-oriented leaders for the future. Additionally, civic education is integrated into these programs to ensure youth are aware of their rights and can make informed decisions, such as voting wisely.
Home Industries
IPS empowers youth and women to establish and operate home-based industries across various sectors, including detergents, fashion and design, skincare and beauty, and food and beverages. Through these initiatives, IPS provides training in manufacturing and production techniques using locally available resources.
Financial Literacy and Economic Empowerment
IPS offers training to youth on proper resource management skills and provides design thinking tools to encourage viable economic activities. By equipping young individuals with financial literacy knowledge and resources, IPS aims to promote economic empowerment and positively impact the community.
These projects showcase the diverse initiatives undertaken by IPS to address critical areas of education, environment, agriculture, entrepreneurship, leadership, and youth empowerment. Together, these efforts contribute to sustainable development and social progress within the communities they serve.
